Quinta Vale Dona Maria, Douro Valley

At the heart of Quinta Vale D.Maria, in São João da Pesqueira, three buildings are positioned scenographically in the valley of the Rio Torto defining an incredible outdoor space overlooking the landscape. However, the existing building complex reveals some problems not only resulting from its deterioration over time, but also from its inadequacy to a program adapted to the current needs, related not only to wine production, but also to wine tourism.

The architectural intervention proposal intends to dignify the Quinta Vale Dona Maria building complex, valorizing the pre-existing structures and exploring the potential of its relation with the territory, assuming a contemporary expansion gesture, in an action that seeks the adequate scale, the flexibility of the program, the reinforcement of the Quinta's identity and, above all, the fusion with the outstanding landscape.
